Irish House

Irish House

The 9,000 square-foot Irish House will house 750 visitors at a time at the temporary site, conveniently located adjacent to Doolin’s Irish Pub in downtown Vancouver. The Irish House site will facilitate Doolin’s trademark ‘Irish family feel’ in ambiance, culture, and music.

The Irish House will be a welcoming gathering place with a boisterous traditional Celtic atmosphere. During the day, the pavilion will feature family-friendly entertainment with music and cultural exhibits. Multiple televisions and projection screens will run highlights of the Games. In the evenings, the true Irish pub culture will come to life, and visitors will experience a party where it will feel like every day is a St. Patrick’s Day party.

Local and international media personalities will be in attendance throughout the two weeks, with familiar names such as Red Robinson, Dave Abbott, Ron Coleman, and Jim Byrnes invited as guest MCs. The official opening on February 11 will kick off with The Most Reverend J. Michael Miller – the Arch-Bishop of Vancouver performing a blessing on the pavilion. A traditional Celtic Standing Stone monument, custom designed and created for the Irish House 2010, will be a featured display piece in pavilion and auctioned off on Saturday February 20.

Irish House 2010 will be located at 620 Nelson Street in Vancouver, BC. The hours of operation will be 7 pm-3 am February 8, and noon to 3 am February 9 – 28. The venue is family friendly from noon – 7 pm, then only 19+ permitted 7 pm onwards.

There will be a $5-20 entrance fee for adults (depending what time of day you arrive) and kids are always free.

As with any Irish Pavilion, get ready for a load of fun and entertainment.

Is it like the Dutch House, with priority entrance for Irish passport holders?

  2. RixxNo Gravatar says:

Welcom To Canada Its been Too Long Can’t Wait Till You Kick Me Out 4 Have’n Too Much Fun !!!!!

  3. SarahNo Gravatar says:

Are you goddamn kidding me? This bullshit is going on until 3am every night for the rest of the month? This is right across the street from my apartment building. Doesn’t anyone else in this slacker city have a job to go to?

  4. MizzleNo Gravatar says:

This place opened up last night and was blaring classic rocks hits till 3 am on a MONDAY.

  5. PizzedNo Gravatar says:

    This was absolutely stupid.

I’m a huge supporter of the Olympics and I know that I’m going to have put up with some noise living downtown. But whoever thought it was a good idea to put a live, loud band (playing TERRIBLE covers, I might add) underneath a thin sheet of tent in the middle of a bunch of residential towers is a complete idiot. And shame on the Irish House for not even attempting to find a mid-way point that wasn’t keeping everyone in a three block radius awake until 3:00 am.

  6. NeighbourNo Gravatar says:

Hmmm thought it was just me being a sissy but yeah I couldn’t sleep either till 2AM, was a complete wreck this morning. Luckily I don’t have a job but I’m not sure if I can keep up with this for the next 3 weeks.

A solutions would be to join the festivities but I’m not going to pay $15 entrance fee and $8 for a pint!

Anyway I love Irish pubs but putting up this house in a residential area is just retarded!!!

went to the opening on Feb 8th and had a great time. The band was amazing and everyone had smiles. Guiness was great. What I got out of it was that the Irish have a great, friendly, fun spirit. And yeah, I live across the street too, but if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em, I say. Go down and have a couple of pints ’til you’re drunk and that’ll help you sleep, noise or no noise. Photos of that party are at goldmedalcity.blogspot.com

F you whiners. You wanted this. Typical Vancouverites you live in the city! Move to the burbs if you don’t like it.

  9. vancouveritesarelameNo Gravatar says:

you guys in vancouver are so freakin, lame. im from toronto and no wonder vancouverites have such a bad reputation for being complainers.. YOU LIVE DOWNTOWN.. !! jesus if you dont like noise move to abbotsford.. in toronto eveything is open till 2am patios, clubs, bars, and no one complains.. its a product of where you choose to live.. its the olympics for god sakes.. ive never seen such a negative bunch of complainers in my entire life.. and beleive me in the national picture, it only makes vancouver look like shit to other provinces and countries..

you complainers are so lame.. get some ear plugs and suck it up.

  10. Party OnNo Gravatar says:

Hey! If you can’t sleep, you might as well join the party!!!! Whine less, drink more wine.

  11. JNo Gravatar says:

Oh boo hoo….the olympics are here deal with it!…..so the house is across you and you have work…..even if the house was somewhere else you ppl would find something else to complain about…..so go invest in some ear
plugs or sleep else where….ppl have to deal with far worse…… quit your complainig and join the fun or watch the rest of us go on without you

  12. scalesNo Gravatar says:

nice generalization there.. a few complains are normal and to be expected, people are after all entitled to their opinion.. But yeah you are also right! though it up, it’s the olympics and your city is HOSTING AN INTERNATIONAL PARTY FOR !& DAYS! :) enjoy it while you can, cos the city will go back to being its old self in 2 weeks..

  13. RyanNo Gravatar says:

Yes get over it you wankers!move to the Fraser Valley are go back to where your from!
No wonder why Vancouver has such a bad rep as being a boring city i, its becauce of prudes who like to complain.

  14. NeighbourNo Gravatar says:

Did it ever occur that a lot of people are not interested in the Games at all?!

So yeah it’s here and we have to accept it but to what extend, there’s a reason why the LiveCity venues closes before midnight. Most of all the other OFFICIAL Houses are NOT in residential areas so they can stay open late.

The Irish House on the other hand is just an huge sports bar, more like an expansion of Doolins pub. And since it’s NOT an official house it’s NOT free!!!

  15. Agree with Part OnNo Gravatar says:

I think you guys should all stop bitching and get into the Olympic spirit. The Olympics only come to Vancouver once in a lifetime. I agree with Party On up there, whine less and drink more wine! That will put you whiners to sleep.

  16. Agree with Part OnNo Gravatar says:

This is to “Neighbor”, just wanted to say that $15 bucks cover fee is not expensive, it’s the Olympics, everything is going to cost you right now, deal with it, and $8 a pint isn’t that bad either, what do you think other places downtown charge? So overall my dear you sound like too much of a downer to even consider joining in on the Irish house shanannigans! Oh and “Sarah”, yes people have jobs to go to, but here in van people can party like rockstars and stay up til 4 in the am and go to work at 8…..and “Pizzed”, you’re pizzing me off! You downers are exactly why I don’t live in Van!

  17. CaseyNo Gravatar says:

I can not wait to be in the Irish house dancing, cursing, waving my pint glass around!!!! Soooo excited. This is once in a life time and I wanna live it up Irish style. I love the music!

  18. DHNo Gravatar says:

I’m not sure how people in Toronto have any clue what they’re talking about w/r/t Irish House, or the others that “live in van but don’t live in van.” Vancouver has a rep for being boring? That’s fine, maybe it is boring. It’s no reason to blast music in a parking lot surrounded exclusively by apartments on weekdays from midnight until 3am for an entire month. I’ve lived in Toronto and Montreal, they don’t do that there either.

The Olympic Spirit is about athleticism, not acting like a drunken disgrace towards citizens of the host City. If that’s what you want to do, that’s fine too, there is no shortage of bars indoors on Granville and other parts of town that don’t keep hundreds of people awake at all hours.

you act like this cash-grab is a friggin public service or something. really it’s a inconsiderate local business bribing officials to turn the other way w/r/t bylaws and decency.

  19. SandmanNo Gravatar says:

Finally went down to check it out tonight. Me and three other indo Canadian males. After waiting in line and getting to the front the genisus Security gaurd said our kind were not allowed in no more. when we asked Ashley, The vice president of the security company for that persons name he refused to give it and said that the reasoning this person gave was that we were causing a rukas in the line up. We were sober, all very quiet and minding our business as anyone in the line will vouch to aswell. This experience has greatly angered us and soured us from going back

  22. FlymasterNo Gravatar says:

I live on Richards and the blast from the IH is still giving me a headache… however I was expecting it to be bad so I went on vacation for 12 days and a few nights I will be joining the crowds. The rest I will use earplugs and a few scotch ! ;-)

  25. DannyNo Gravatar says:

SARAH! its called the OLYMPICS! you know TOURISTS go to this event?? Let me ask…WTF were you thinking moving downtown? That you were going to fall gently to sleep listening to crickets and wake up to chirping birds? HELLO!!! Get a brain cell already

  26. ivanNo Gravatar says:

As someone who chooses to live downtown to be close to everything knowing that meant late night activity, this is one more attraction. For those complaining they can’t sleep? You chose to move downtown – to be close to everything and late night activity! It’s sad to see a vital downtown district be populated more and more with people moving in from the suburbs hoping to hear the crickets at night. Move to Mission! Leave downtown to those of us that want to keep a vital downtown core, and hope to see it get even more active.
